Spinnaker Named "Employer of the Year" by HopeWorks
HopeWorks Will Present Spinnaker with Award During Its Eighth Annual Morning of Hope Breakfast
Houston, June 14, 2016 – Spinnaker, the international provider of supply chain consulting and returns management solutions, announced today that they were selected by HopeWorks, Inc. as the “2016 Employer of the Year”. This award was presented to Spinnaker during the 8th annual Morning of Hope Breakfast held on Saturday, June 11th. Each year HopeWorks recognizes an employer that has gone above and beyond for their students in the Hopeworks’ Personal Career and Development Program.
HopeWorks, is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to serve the under-resourced through outreach programs that develop individual worth, encourage personal responsibility and promote the honor and value of work. By implementing a holistic approach through daily classes and meals, educational training and spiritual counseling, HopeWorks strives to break the cycle of crime, addiction and generational poverty that traps so many in our cities.
Thomas Howard, Senior Operations Manager at Spinnaker’s Memphis Reverse Logistics Operation, acts as Spinnaker’s liaison with HopeWorks. The partnership began when Amy Braden, HopeWorks’ Internship Director and Job Placement and Retention Specialist, reached out to Thomas about a possible workforce development opportunity. Thomas’s staffing requirements and Amy’s placement requirements closely aligned and a partnership was formed.
Thomas Howard stated, “The HopeWorks and Spinnaker relationship is a great collaboration of the two organizations. At Spinnaker we believe in honesty, integrity, innovation, reputation, and above all, a positive culture. Along with having company values that align, it was great to be able to help such a wonderful organization serving the Memphis area.”
Out of forty employers under consideration for this award, Spinnaker was specifically selected because of the quality of employment that was offered to their students and the volume of students that were working for Spinnaker while in the program. The students that were working with Spinnaker all spoke very highly of the organization and the experience. The students shared the uplifting benefits of being included in decision making processes, positive reinforcement, feeling valued and seeing a path forward with an established company like Spinnaker.
In the past year Spinnaker has acquired five students through the internship program and three of those students were later hired as full-time employees upon graduation.
