Green Supply Chain Leadership

Spinnaker Demonstrates Leadership in Driving a Green Supply Chain

DENVER, Colo. – Dec. 1, 2008 – Spinnaker, a global leader in supply chain consulting, execution and support, today announced that it has been recognized with the Green Supply Chain award by Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine.

Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine’s 2008 Green Supply Chain Awards are judged on the clarity and content of a company’s goals and strategy, the extent of the steps being taken to achieve a green supply chain operation, the overall impact of the results to date, and projected results.

“We’re proud to be recognized as leaders in promoting a green supply chain,” said Mathew Stava, co-founder and managing principal at Spinnaker.  “The fact is that greening up the supply chain is now as much about solid economic choices as it is about doing the right thing.  Spinnaker has proven that a company can make a serious impact to the bottom line and improve the environment of any operation by setting attainable goals and taking action to incrementally improve the ways in which we do business.”

“Spinnaker began early this year by setting ‘green’ goals for its outsourced operations and the momentum began to build from there as results rolled in,” said Jeff Jorgensen, principal at Spinnaker. “For Spinnaker, these goals presented an opportunity to intensify our company’s commitment to make eco-friendly practices part of annual goal setting, regular decision making, and daily service delivery responsibilities.  This strategy is obviously intended to not only help meet service and cost objectives, but also support the drive to be more environmentally sustainable.”

Some early results of Spinnaker’s efforts include:

  • Converting from Mercury Vapor to Fluorescent lighting is already saving thousands on utility bills and extending the life of the lights themselves.
  • Estimates indicate that more than one ton of white paper and more than 7,000 plastic containers are diverted from landfills each year from our corporate headquarters and one other major location alone.
  • Implementing a corrugated cardboard recycling program will reduce the waste stream by more than 70 percent.
  • Implementing green building practices, such as water efficient toilets, are expected to save more than 50 percent of previous annual water consumption, saving our operation more than 15,000 gallons each year and reducing the load on the city’s water treatment plants.
