The importance of organizational design and core competencies are often underestimated when assessing the performance of current supply chain processes or evaluating designs for supply chain process transformation. We believe that organizational competency is consistently ignored because it is difficult to evaluate and measure. It is always easier to view processes or technology as the culprit as opposed to the organization of people. However, when measuring success by the effectiveness of the solution instead of simply by the implementation of the tool or process, organizational competency must be included as a key factor in the eventual outcome.
Aligning Organizational and Supply Chain Strategies
With experience across many companies and industries, Spinnaker consultants bring our clients a unique perspective on the organizational models that work best to achieve supply chain strategy objectives. To share this knowledge, Spinnaker incorporates the evaluation and recommendation of organizational competencies into our supply chain projects. This includes a short-term recommendation to ensure project success and a longer-term roadmap to continuously improve the capabilities of the client’s team. Because our approach utilizes small project teams that work side-by-side with client resources, we are able to observe resource skills and competencies first hand as we progress through the early phases of a project. Feedback and recommendations are enhanced based on this first-hand experience with client resources.
Spinnaker Helps Address Organizational Challenges
Although every situation is unique, many clients face organizational design competency challenges when upgrading to new technology or processes. Spinnaker utilizes a combination of training, interim staffing, and new resources to help a company address competency challenges. We can create and deliver training programs with periodic review to keep skills current on tools and processes. In addition, we have provided specialized resources for a period of time after "go live" to help with stabilization and knowledge transfer. When new resources are needed, Spinnaker helps our clients recruit, identify and screen potential candidates for these positions.
